A Wilton man led police on a chase spanning more than 20 miles on Route 15 early Friday morning.
Wilton police attempted to stop a gray Honda Civic around 3 a.m. when cops noticed one of its headlights was out. When cops tried to pull it over, however, the Honda pulled a quick U-turn and sped south on Danbury Road.
“The suspect vehicle drove erratically and at one point slammed on the brakes to cause an accident,” said Wilton police spokesman Lt. Gregg Phillipson.
Wilton police terminated the pursuit when the suspect reached the Merritt Parkway, but the vehicle was soon spotted by state police traveling north near Exit 46 in Fairfield.
Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle just north of Exit 52 in Trumbull.
The vehicle increased speed and refused to stop on Route 15, traveling north into Stratford, across the Sikorsky Memorial Bridge and into Orange.
The vehicle was later stopped, just north of Exit 60 in New Haven, after running over stop sticks placed by state police.
The driver — Ijeboi Holms, 43, of Drum Hill Road in Wilton — was charged with improper use of marker/license/registration, operating without insurance, operating a motor vehicle under suspension, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit and resisting arrest.
He was held on $50,000 bond.
