* The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven recently announced local resident, Gavin Krois, received an Honorable Mention from the Milton Fisher Scholarship Foundation, an organization that recognizes innovation, creativity and problem-solving for real life issues. Krois’ project involved a new design that could be used for a vertical axis wind turbine, allowing it to operate without causing the fatigue and stress that normally leads to frequent breakage in current engineering designs. His design could lead to greater use of an important form of sustainable energy. A graduate of Jonathan Law High School (2019), he is a student at Stony Brook University. * The Pulsera Project, a fundraiser, was recently facilitated by 8th-grade Spanish teacher Stephanie Sanchez’s advisory group at Amity Middle School in Orange. Artisans from Guatemala and Nicaragua sent handmade bracelets and cross-body bags to be sold to help provide education, clean water, and housing to the people in those countries. The advisory group was able to raise over $800 selling the items during lunch waves.
