Stamford man charged with reckless driving

WESTPORT — A Stamford man tried to escape an officer who tried to stop him for reckless driving, police said.

On Nov. 4 around 1:45 p.m., an officer observed a dark-colored sedan travel southbound on Main Street at an extremely high rate of speed, police said. The officer activated his lights and siren while turning around in an attempt to stop the car, but the car increased its speed and evaded the officer, according to the report.

A description of the suspect car was relayed to other patrol units, and a second officer observed the vehicle at the intersection of Post Road West and Riverside Avenue. The car then turned left on Riverside Avenue before passing other vehicles, police said, adding the estimated speed of the car was over 85 mph.

The second officer stopped the car near 265 Riverside Avenue. The driver, identified as Tanmay Pathre, 32, was arrested and brought to headquarters.

He was charged with disobeying the signal of an officer, reckless driving, and first-degree reckless endangerment. Pathre was released after posting a $1,000 court set bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court of Norwalk on Nov. 19.
