Revving up: Touch-a-Truck rolls in for Saturday event

More than 25 trucks of different sizes, shapes and functions will be on display during a "touch-a-truck" event on Saturday, March 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Coleytown Elementary School.

Sponsored by the Westport Weston Cooperative Nursery School, the event will go on rain or shine.

Children and adults will be able to touch and climb aboard the likes of a recycling truck, dump truck, backhoe, mobile crane truck, fire engine, police car -- even novelty vehicles such as a mobile dog-grooming van, event sponsors said.

Admission is $20 per family of six members or fewer. Proceeds benefit the Westport Weston Cooperative Nursery School, a private, nonprofit early childhood program founded in 1955.

The first hour of the event -- from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. -- has been designated as a "quiet hour," when no horns will be sounded so neighbors will not be disturbed, the nursery school said.

Melissa & Doug, the Westport-based maker of toys, games and crafts kits, is a co-sponsor of the event and will have a tent offering activities and give-aways, the nursery school said.

Other attractions will include music performed by Rockin' Railroad, the band from the Kidville; an inflatable "bounce house;" face painting, and a sample class offered by the Little Gym, sponsors said.

Home-made baked goods will be sold, along with ice cream from Skip's Ice Cream of Norwalk and coffee from Java Coffee and Cafe on Church Lane.
