Police: Two Bridgeport women assaulted woman in Westport

WESTPORT — Two Bridgeport women allegedly assaulted a woman in Westport over a money issue near the Baldwin parking lot Jan. 25.

A woman in the lot flagged down a patrolling officer, claimed she was just assaulted by two other females and pointed out the suspects’ vehicle to the officer as the vehicle was leaving, police said.

When the victim left work, she found Dulces Rios-Melendez, 19, and a woman she did not know waiting by her vehicle. Rios-Melendez approached the victim, began to argue with her about a money issue, and then struck her multiple times while the other female, acting as a “look-out” for Rios-Melendez, encouraged the striking. As the victim took out her phone to call police, Rios-Melendez slapped the phone from her hands, causing the victim’s phone and glasses to become damaged. The victim also sustained minor injuries, police said.

The other female, later identified as Naomi Torres, 20, alerted Rios-Melendez of a nearby police vehicle and she and Rios-Melendez fled. Police later learned Rios-Melendez and Torres traveled to Westport in order to confront the victim about money.

Officers stopped the two women in their vehicle. Rios-Melendez was charged with assault and conspiracy to commit assault, both in the third degree, in addition to interfering with an emergency call and breach of peace. Rios-Melendez was later released after posting a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court Feb. 6.

Torres was charged with breach of peace and third-degree conspiracy to commit assault. She was released after posting a $1,000 bond and is also due in Norwalk Court Feb. 6.
