Letter: Choose top schools or diversity

The winners of the Westport Teen Diversity Essay Contest all seem to have thought long and hard on the subject and produced well-written and mature essays ("Essay winners highlight town's lack of diversity," April 4).

However, they should be informed at their young ages, by the teacher assigning such thought and writing, that it is precisely the high quality of education that they are receiving at their "un-diversified" school that helps keep real estate prices here out of the reach of those who's presence would "diversify" their school.

Their Hobson's choice, they should be told, is to get the fine education they get here, or a far-less fine one where diversity reigns.
