Human rights activist to speak at services in Unitarian Church in Westport

On Sunday, May 18 William F. Schulz, former executive director of Amnesty International USA and president and CEO of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, will be conducting the Sunday services at the Unitarian Church in Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road.

His sermon, "In Defense of Barbarians," will be given at the 9 and 11 a.m. services.

He is the author or contributing editor of several books, including "In Our Own Best Interest: How Defending Human Rights Benefits Us All," "Tainted Legacy: 9/11 and the Ruin of Human Rights," "The Phenomenon of Torture" and "The Future of Human Rights: US Policy for a New Era."

He earned an undergraduate degree from Oberlin College and a master's degree in philosophy and a doctor of ministry degree from the University of Chicago. He also holds eight honorary degrees.
