Dozens take the plunge for charity at Westport beach

More than 100 employees of Synchrony, a Stamford-based consumer financial services company, participated in the fifth annual Doubles Dive by plunging into the chilly waters at Compo Beach on Friday to raise money for charity.

The event, an idea conceived by Synchrony president Brian Doubles, raises funds for the SeriousFun Children’s Network, a group offering camps and programs for children living with serious illnesses.

The nonprofit organization, whose Support Center is based in Westport, was started by actor and philanthropist Paul Newman. Employee divers had already raised more than $16,800 for SeriousFun by the start of the event. Synchrony pledged to match the funds raised by employees.
