Deep freeze: Westport rides out chilling onslaught

Baby, it's cold outside.

Biting, brutal cold with daytime "high" temperatures Tuesday barely inching into the double digits and the overnight low expected to fall near zero -- and wind chill values registering in the minus-teen range because of a bone-chilling west wind 11 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Wednesday is expected to be a little "warmer," although temperatures will be well below freezing. Skies will be sunny again, but the high temperature will be in the low-20s, the NWS predicts, and the daytime wind chill could feel as low as minus-8 degrees.

Wednesday Sunny, with a high near 22. Wind chill values as low as -8 degrees. Nighttime will be cloudy, with temperatures in the mid-teens.

Things start to warm up a bit by Thursday, as the daytime high is expected to rise to just about the freezing level in the low-30s.

But there is a slight chance of snow overnight Thursday into Friday morning -- 20 percent odds, according to the weather service.
