A woman from eastern Connecticut has been charged with shoplifting nearly $3,000 worth of merchandise from two local retailers.
Sherry Neustadt, 50, of Haddam, was charged Saturday as she attempted to flee from the scene of one of the incidents in her car, police said. Officers had been alerted that a shoplifting had occurred and the suspect drove from the scene. A description of the car was provided to officers, who stopped Neustadt a short distance away.
Neustadt was subsequently identified as the suspect in shoplifting incidents at two Westport stores, and more than $2,900 in merchandise from the stores was recovered, according to the report.
Police did not identify the stores where the shoplifting is alleged to have taken place.
Neustadt was charged with fourth-degree larceny, and bond was set at $500. She is scheduled to appear March 10 at Norwalk Superior Court.
