New music store opens in Westport

Music & Arts recently unveiled its newest musical instrument store and lessons facility in Westport.

The new store serves the residents of Westport and surrounding Fairfield County towns including Fairfield and Norwalk by offering private and group lessons programs, instrument rentals, repairs and a wide assortment of instruments and accessories. Located at 413 Post Road East, the store also serves school music programs throughout the county.

“We thank the Westport community for their warm welcome. For over 65 years, we have continued to serve local communities with a wide assortment of top-name brands, expert repairs, and university-trained lesson instructors,” said Music & Arts president Steve Zapf in a news release. “Our new location will continue to serve as a central source for ‘everything musical’ for parents and students alike.”

Music & Arts is comprised of more than 190 retail stores, more than 140 educational representatives, and over 350 affiliate locations. In addition to carrying a wide assortment of top-name brands, most locations offer expert repairs and university-trained, background-checked lesson instructors.

Career Coach to lead class on

Jan. 10

The American Job Center Southwest’s Career Coach will return to Westport Town Hall on Jan. 10 to offer a a beginner’s class in Microsoft PowerPoint 2013 from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by an intermediate class in PowerPoint 2013 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Career Coach is a “training center” tour bus equipped with 10 wireless computer labs offering free computer classes to residents in the greater Norwalk area. The mobile unit operates on a monthly schedule of visits to various community locations and is accessible to people with disabilities.

Career Coach classes will be canceled if the host site’s schools are canceled or delayed due to inclement weather.

Westport Country Playhouse presents storytelling show

The Westport Country Playhouse will present “The Moth Mainstage,” featuring five storytellers sharing true, personal stories from their lives on the theme, “The Ties That Bind: The Moth in Westport,” on Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Among the storytellers are Westport residents Jane Green, a New York Times best-selling author; and Dan Woog, Westport blogger. Others are Alistair Bane, Henia Lewin, and Trina Michelle Robinson. The evening’s host is Dame Wilburn, a poet, storyteller and writer, and former Moth GrandSLAM champion. The director is Meg Bowles and the producer is Michelle Jalowski.

Green is the author of 19 novels, 17 of which have been New York Times bestsellers. Three of her books have recently been made into movies by Lifetime, out in 2019. The Moth is a nonprofit dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. Since launching in 1997, The Moth has presented over 35,000 true personal stories, told live, without notes, to audiences around the globe. Renowned for showcasing a broad range of human experiences, The Moth produces approximately 600 live shows each year and has an ongoing presence in 29 cities worldwide.

Tickets are $40 and $45. The performance runs approximately two hours with 15-minute intermission, and is appropriate for ages 16 and up.
