Boys Basketball: Holzinger, GFA knock down threes for cancer

WESTPORT — All season long, there has been something special about the Greens Farms Academy Dragons team, other than the wins on the court.

Other than the wins on the court, this team has been doing much more off the court to give back to the community and beyond through different charities and fundraisers.

The Dragons ‘Pack the House’ night, helped to raise over $1,500 for Global PEHT, a social enterprise and global community aimed at offering sustainable, long-term stratergy to aid in the fight to end human trafficking.

But there was one contribution that the team has come together to help senior Henry Holzinger with, GFA coach Doug Scott said.

“He’s doing this fundraiser for cancer research,” he said. “Based on how many threes the team makes. So people are pledging money based on how many threes the team makes in the year.”

Holzinger began everything in memory to his late uncle, who died of brain cancer.

The senior guard helped out his own cause last Friday night when he broke the single-game school record for most three-pointers with nine against Redemption Christian Academy.

It was a night to remember, not just for the record, but also to give support for a major cause, he said.

“My uncle meant a lot to me,” Holzinger said. “Cancer has effected a lot of people not just my uncle, but my GFA family as well. It’s a really important cause, and I’m just really happy that we’re raising awareness and raise money for this research and getting the whole community involved with our basketball team.”
