There were lots of big winners from southwest Connecticut who had lucky tickets in CT Lottery games in June.
The biggest winner was Anne Doucette, of Fairfield, who scored $500,000 on a $500,000 Extreme Cash ticket sold at News Express in Fairfield.
The game, that started in May, has four top $500,000 prizes. So far, Doucette is only person to claim the top prize.
Juan Blondet, also of Fairfield, won $250,000 on a lucky $250,000 Cashword ticket sold the same location that Doucette bought her ticket.
Edward Hardison, of Ansonia became $360,000 richer from a winning Gold Premium Play ticket he bought at Justice Liquor in Bridgeport.
Ercan Basturk, of Norwalk won $100,000 on a Cash 5 ticket sold at East Avenue Gas Station in Norwalk.
Douglas Palker, of Litchfield went home with $100,000 with a winning Cash 5 ticket sold at Sam’s Food Store in Torrington.
The biggest CT Lottery winner in the state last month was Mary Clancey, of Torrington, who won $3 million on a Mega Millions ticket bought at The Cork Fine Wine & Spirits.
The second biggest winner was ... the State of Connecticut. Yes, the state got the $1 million prize after a winning Powerball ticket went unclaimed. The winning ticket from that Jan. 6 drawing, sold in at the Stop & Shop in Kensington, expired on July 5. Under CT Lottery rules, if the ticket is not claimed in 180 days, the money goes into the state’s General Fund.
Another unclaimed $1 million Powerball ticket sold at Georgetown Shell in Wilton also remains unclaimed. The person who holds that ticket has until Oct. 29 to cash it in. After that, it’s another million bucks for the state.
Many of June’s winners came from lucky “scratch game” tickets. The instant winner (or loser) tickets accounted for 59.2 percent of total lottery sales and contributed $144,232,958 to the General Fund last year, according to its 2017 annual report.
