Escaped inmate from Westport captured

The inmate who escaped while attending a community college program in Enfield has been captured, according to WFSB TV.

U.S. Marshals had joined the search for Christopher Somsky, 45, of Westport, has been on the lam since Saturday afternoon, according to the Associated Press.

He had been serving time at the Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution and was participating in an approved day program at Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield when he walked away. He was serving a 9-year sentence for a robbery conviction.

Somsky was taken into custody at a hospital as he was being treated for a hip injury he received while on the run, WFSB said.

He was treated and released to state Department of Correction officials.

Connecticut officials are ramping up the search for an inmate who escaped a prison program at a local college.

Prison officials considered Somsky a low-risk offender.
