Voices combined, striving for a wondrous sound: We crave that harmony this time of year, which is why you see so many worthy holiday concerts in Connecticut.
New Haven Chorale’s Holiday Collage Concert features an 85-voice, professionally conducted volunteer chorus making some sweet music at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Woodbridge Saturday afternoon.
The Chorale’s Holiday Collage Concert has become a holiday tradition for fans in the greater New Haven Community, say organizers. This year’s is built around the themes of glory and light, they say,and features lively music by Handel, Haydn and Schubert with orchestra, a world premiere of “Hanerot Hallelu” by composer Josh Sparkman, as well as inspirational a capella works by David von Kampen, Whitacre, Poulenc, and Christopher Mueller. The concert also includes an audience sing-along with orchestra, and features the engaging soprano soloist Michelle Fiertek. Children are welcome.
Another holiday vocal option is the Fairfield University Glee Club, led by spirited conductor Carole Ann Maxwell, which will present its popular holiday concert, “Tis the Season,” Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7, in the Quick Center. Featured will be offshoots Sweet Harmony, an all-female ensemble of chamber singers; and The Bensonians, an all-male a cappella group.
