Westport's Luke McCambley shook off the heavy rains on Saturday and claimed victory in the sixth Road Runners Series race of the summer. The win was the first this year for McCambley, who completed the 5.85 mile distance in 32:51. McCambley, won five straight Road Runners races last year.
Fairfield Warde graduate Cate Allen was the first female to cross the finish line for the second straight week. Allen finished sixth overall with a time of 35:22. Second and third places in the women's division went to Eliza Tabacchi, of Weston, who finished in 12th place overall, and Kate Halabi, of Darien, who came home 20th, with the respective times of 39:28 and 41:22.
Weston's William Glaser (33:35) and Brad DeMarco (34:02) finished second and third overall. Other Westport-Weston residents who finished in the top 10 were Paul Greenberg, sixth in 37:08, David Allen, seventh in 37:16, Roger Baxley, ninth in 39:11, and Josh Lander, 10th in 39:21.
The next scheduled Road Runners race will be held on Saturday, August 9th with a 6.85 mile race starting at Compo Beach. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the race beginning at 8 a.m. For more information, visit westportroadrunners.org.
