Last weekend, the Westport Wreckers U15/U16 travel team won a nine-team round robin tournament in Fruitland, Md. that featured teams from many states across the east coast.
Led by coaches Matt Hennessey and Pete Doria, Westport went 2-0 in pool play to reach the quarterfinals. Championship play was held Sunday.
Westport defeated the Bagel Bombers (N.J.) 10-0 in four innings in the semifinals to reach the championship game. In the final round, the Wreckers defeated the South Jersey Iron Pigs 6-2 to clinch the trophy.
Adam Feuer was named tournament MVP with a batting average of .666.
George Goldstein led the charge on the mound, pitching in four of five games and not yielding an earned run in any of them. Feuer and Fitton also pitched effectively.
Michael Fanning, Robert Stone, Mack Muller, Joey Dougherty and Paul Friezo all batted .400 or above for the Wreckers.
