Sami Jurofsky, a 2011 Staples graduate, was a member of the Ohio State rowing team that won its second consecutive NCAA championship last Sunday at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.
The Buckeyes claimed individual national titles in the first and second varsity eights and a seventh-place overall finish in the first varsity four. Jurofsky coxed the third-seed second varsity eights to a first-place finish.
"It was awesome," Jurofsky said. "We were the big first 10 big ten team to win it last season and to do it again was amazing. To do better than our seed was great."
Jurofsky's boat crossed the line in 6:59.43, ahead of Princeton (7:02.02).
"I just had to remind everyone, including myself, to stay calm," Jurofsky said. "We just had to work together, stay calm and race. We started off down, and everyone remembered that it's not really about the first half, it's about the second half of the race. We just had to keep going."
