Whether you fashion yourself a serious film buff, simply enjoy the Academy Awards' mystique -- or if you just love popcorn -- the third annual N'Oscars on Sunday afternoon will have something for you.
The N'Oscars (Not the Oscars) event is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. at -- where else? -- Oscar's Delicatessen, 159 Main St.
The program will feature an Academy Award trivia contest, a discussion of this year's nominees led by Westport News film critic and a veteran actor, plus Oscar balloting to see who can pick Sunday night's winners, organizers said.
Sponsored by the Westport Cinema Initiative, the N'Oscars event is free and open to the public and include free popcorn. Other food and beverages will be available for purchase. No reservations are required.
The event is a warm up for the 86th annual Academy Awards later Sunday at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. The awards will be broadcast on ABC, with coverage beginning at 7 p.m.
Earlier in Westport, prizes will be awarded in the Oscars' trivia contest. Film critic Susan Granger, whose reviews are published in the Westport News and sister publications, and local actor Scott Bryce will lead a discussion about the 2014 nominees, the cinema group said.
At last's years N'Oscars, a red carpet was rolled out the deli's door onto Main Street. Attire included at least one floor-length gown and a couple of tuxedos, but far-more-casual clothing -- including T-shirts and jeans -- ruled the day.
The Westport Cinema Initiative is a nonprofit group that hopes to build a multi-screen movie house off Main Street behind Tavern on Main restaurant.
