WESTPORT — The Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce will host a first selectman candidate debate at the Westport Library from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12.
Candidates Timothy J. Elgin, Melissa Kane, Jim Marpe, and John Suggs will square off and discuss business-related issues at what has become an annual chamber-run candidate debate. The session will be moderated by attorney Jay Sandak, from the law firm of Carmody, Torrance, Sandak and Hennessey.
Unlike other debates in town, the chamber debate will have an interactive moderator who will lead the discussion on topics related to the business environment in town. Jobs, taxes, the recent retail closures and more will be looked at by all four candidates.
The debate will take place at the Westport Library in the reading room. Attendees should arrive around 11:30 a.m. to meet and greet the candidates and write down questions they’d like asked. The initial questions will be submitted by the chamber board and public questions will be vetted by them prior to submission. The debate will begin at noon. The session should end around 1:30 p.m.
