The Unitarian Church in Westport is seeking donations for a dinner-dance and auction to be held Oct. 25 at the Lyons Plains Road congregation.
Proceeds will benefit the church's community outreach projects. The auction catalog, describing all auction items, will be published by the end of September.
The following donations are among the items the church is looking to offer in either its live or silent auctions at the event: travel packages, items autographed by celebrities, tickets to pro sporting events or concerts, a private tour of a museum or other landmark, a meal prepared by a local chef, and tickets to a television show. Other desired donations include gift certificates for landscaping, flowers and spa services, a limousine ride, jewelry, a gym membership, a day of golf, house cleaning, tax preparation or anything else that could be auctioned.
Already this year, the church has provided nearly $8,000 in aid to community organizations, according Mary Elizabeth Peterson, the committee chairwoman. One of the church's largest community outreach projects is Beardsley School in Bridgeport. Church volunteers become mentors, tutors and readers for kindergarten through sixth grade. They also provide job coaching, financial seminars, new and used books, school supplies, winter coats, backpacks, clothing, scholarships, swimming lessons, musical instruments and more, to help the school.
"The goal to aid these important causes is an ambitious $40,000," Peterson said.
Music at the event will be provided Steve Kazlauskas and local TV personality David Smith will be the auctioneer.
