Things to do in Westport this weekend

The only thing better than pizza on Friday would be pizza with Santa on Friday at the Westport Weston Family Y.

Looking to take a break from all the holiday shopping, wrapping and baking? Grab your coat and hat -- though you won't have to bundle too much this unseasonably warm weekend -- and enjoy these Westport events celebrating the season this weekend:

What's better than pizza on a Friday night? Pizza on a Friday night with Santa! The Westport-Weston Family Y will host jolly St. Nick in its gymnastics center from 6 to 7:15 p.m. The annual event includes cookie decorating, a Christmas craft, two slices of pizza and a drink. The fee is $5 per child, and pre-registration is required. Children must attend with an adult. For more details, call 203-226-8981 and visit www.westporty.org

Do a little pre-holiday workout and give to others when you attend the Pure Barre Westport's "Pure Give Class" at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The donation-only class is part of the Westport Annual Holiday Giving program, and some of the most appreciated gifts in the town-sponsored program are grocery and gas gift cards in any amount. Pure Barre is located at 291 Post Road East.

Wondering how to feed a turkey vulture? Find out Saturday when the Earthplace staff hosts animal feeding time at 4 p.m. Free with the price of admission to the nature center at 10 Woodside Lane. For more information, visit www.earthplace.org.

If you're still working on that "spirits" list for Christmas Eve -- the kind you can use to toast the holiday -- stop by Bottlerocket Wine & Spirit, 1790 Post Road East, for a free tasting of Whistle Pig straight rye whiskey at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Take in the colorful exhibit at the Westport Arts Center Gallery, 51 Riverside Ave., "Chuck Close: About Face." The exhibit is on view through Jan. 12 and gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call 203-222-7070 or visit www.westportartscenter.org for more information.
