The Westport Arts Center has selected 12 member artists to showcase in its annual exhibition "Solos," curated by Patricia Hickson, of the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. "Solos 2014" will be on view Friday, April 4, to June 1 at the arts center, 51 Riverside Ave.
Thirty-eight works will be on display, including the work of Westport artists Lawrence McGarvey and Marlene Siff; Algirdas Nakas and Melissa Newman, both of Weston; and Katherine Evans, of Fairfield. Other artists in the exhibit hail from New York and New Jersey, as well as Connecticut.
Hickson curated the exhibit from a record-breaking 154 submissions.
Several events have been planned in conjunction with the exhibit. They include "Drink 'n' Draw," an evening of drawing from a live nude model, with refreshments, on Thursday, April 10, and May 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. Participants must be 21 or older. An art workshop, "Creating Collages," will be offered Thursday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. And on Tuesday, May 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. Paige Kendig will present her Emmy-nominated short film, "Note to Self: Chuck Close." Each of the three events is $15, $10 for arts center members and students.
A Behind-the-Scenes Art Tour of the Randall's Island at Frieze Art Fair will be conducted Friday, May 9, at 11 a.m. The cost is $75 for nonmembers, $60 for members.
Free ArtCafe Artist Talks are planned for Fridays, May 2, 16 and 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. and an ArtCafe Happy Hour Poetry Slam will take place Friday, May 30, from 6 to 7 p.m.
