The Westport Center for Senior Activities has announced the following activities:
Monday, Feb. 10: Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County will offer the free workshop, "A Beautiful Image: Accepting Yourself As You Are," from 10 to 11 a.m. Nanette Greene, a visiting nurse counselor, will discuss how to cope with moments of anxiety, self-doubt and denial, as well as stressful events that can interfere with the innate capacity to feel happy, compassionate and strong. The workshop will include exercises that aim to transform depleting moments into peaceful ones.
Tuesday, Feb. 11: Chiropractor and pain-management expert Adam Propper will give the presentation " The Power That Made Your Body Heals Your Body" from 1 to 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 12: Two registered nurses from Norwalk Hospital will discuss diabetes from 1 to 2 p.m. Claudia Lord and Natasha Dickenson will talk about early signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, as well as the complications of diabetes. Onsite blood screenings will be available.
Thursday, Feb. 13: A detitian will conduct a class on healthy cooking for singles and couples from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The class will prepare mock risotto, a vegetarian entree made with brown rice, as well as a roasted-fruit dessert. The cost is $6.
Saturday, Feb. 15: A Saturday Social featuring lunch and a musical performance is planned from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Menu includes boneless chicken sauteed in a vegetable and bacon wine sauce, beet salad, rice pilaf, baby dill carrots, chocolate cake and beverages. After lunch, Gary Ksahn will perform a medley of songs made popular by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole and others. Cost is $7.
