Project Return of Westport has received a grant of $10,965 from the Fairfield County Community Foundation's Fund for Women and Girls.
The grant will allow Project Return to expand the HEAL Program for girls who are grappling with challenging issues involving family, school and community, and to serve more girls in need.
HEAL (Health, Empathy, Altruism, Love), established in 2008, as part of Project Return's efforts to bring its residential program model to girls living at home. Teen girls who could benefit from a supportive peer environment are invited by their school guidance counselors to plan and carry out community service projects. The program helps build confidence, resiliency and feelings of empowerment.
Project Return services include a core residential program for teens and young women who have experienced abuse and neglect and have been removed from their homes; an aftercare program for former residents who continue to require support, and the HEAL program.
