An out-of-state man and woman face robbery and larceny charges after they were stopped trying to flee Friday from the Anthropologie store on Post Road East.
The incident took place shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, police said, when two store employees confronted a man suspected of stealing merchandise, later identified as Jose Meneses, 63, of Hoboken, N.J., as he was leaving the premises.
Officer Thomas Casimiro, who had been dispatched to the scene, stopped a car trying to leave the store parking lot at a high rate of speed.
Witnesses identified Meneses and Luz Barbosa, 58, of Queens, N.Y., as the man and woman who had been in the store moments before. Inside their car, according to the report, were numerous articles of clothing that had been stolen from the store.
Meneses was charged with third-degree robbery and third-degree larceny, while Barbosa was charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree robbery and third-degree larceny.
Bond for each suspect was set at $30,000, and they are scheduled to appear July 9 in Norwalk Superior Court.
