"The Oscar-winning film, "12 Years a Slave," will be shown at the Westport Public Library on May 31.

"12 Years a Slave," the film that won this year's Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay, will be screened Saturday at the Westport Library.

The screening will start at 1:30 p.m., with a discussion following the screening.

Set in the pre-Civil War U.S., the film chronicles 12 years in the life of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, who is abducted and sold into slavery. In the 12th year of his odyssey, Solomon's chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) will alter his life.

The screening is free and open to the public, co-sponsored by TEAM Westport and Saugatuck Congregational Church.
