Films were the focus downtown for a standing-room-only crowd Sunday afternoon at Oscar's Deli as a new Westport tradition celebrated the Academy Awards.
The third annual "N'Oscars" event -- "Not the Oscars" -- was a rollicking run-up to the movie world's annual Oscars ceremony broadcast later that might.
Sponsored by the Westport Cinema Initiative, the event showcased the group's mission to bring a moviehouse back to downtown Westport. Updating attendees on that goal, WCI officials reported that an architectural design for the theater has been prepared, but the structure still is more than a year or two away from being a reality.
Film critic Susan Granger, whose reviews are published in the Westport News, and actor/producer Scott Bryce served as the event's the N'Oscars masters of ceremonies. They discussed film history and quizzed the audience about movie trivia.
WCI Director Sandy Lefkowitz and state Rep. Jonathan Steinberg were on hand to provide information about the group, as well as to distribute donated prizes for winners of the trivia contest.
The moviehouse atmosphere was further enhanced by fresh-made popcorn made by WCI board member Larry Perlstein.
