Freeze frame: Taking the New Year's plunge for charity

There was cold comfort for the crowd that took a plunge New Year's Day morning in frigid Long Island Sound that it was all for a good cause.

The 11th annual Polar Plunge organized Wednesday by the Team Mossman Triathlon Club raised money for Save the Children, the Westport-based international relief agency.

Though skies were sunny over Compo Beach, the temperature cooperated with the "polar" theme of the event, barely rising about the freezing mark in advance of a predicted snowstorm later in the week.
