The Westport Historical Society is holding three workshops this summer: "Junior Detective," "Circus Workshop," and "Ghosts, Werewolves and Zombies." All are four-day workshops.
Kids in the "Junior Detective" workshop will be given notebooks and magnifying glasses and set to work interviewing older Westport residents with stories to tell about the town's history.
Next, the children will examine old photos of Westport, and then set out around town in search of the old buildings they saw in the photos. Each day will feature a walking tour. "Junior Detectives" is for children ages 5-12 and will run from Aug. 4 through Aug. 7.
In "Circus Workshop," participants make their own mobiles, learn circus history, play circus games outdoors and, on the last day, perform their own circus show for their parents under a big top. Circus Workshop is appropriate for ages 5-12 and runs from Aug. 11 to 14.
"Ghosts, Werewolves and Zombies" is a writing workshop for ages 8 to 13. Kids will have a chance to write their own ghost stories and to hear Connecticut's ghost stories. The workshop is led by author Christina Frei. Art and drama will also be part of the workshop, which runs from Aug. 18 through Aug. 21.
All three workshops wil be held at the Westport Historical Society, 25 Avery Place, and run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The cost is $200 for members and $235 for non-members. Registration is required. To register, call 203-222-1424.
