The Democratic Town Committee is accepting applications from registered party members interested in filling a vacancy on the town's Board of Assessment Appeals.
The vacancy stems from the June 12 resignation of Democrat Jeff Jacobs, and the Town Charter requires the seat be filled by someone from the same party, according to John Hartwell, the Democratic Town Committee chairman.
The board meets in March and September of each year to consider appeals of assessments of real estate, motor vehicles and personal property. The person appointed to fill the vacancy would serve until the November 2017 town election.
The Democratic Town Committee and the board will interview candidates separately, Hartwell said. The DTC will make a recommendation, but by town charter, authority to appoint Jacob's replacement lies with the two remaining board members, Democrat Elaine Arnow and Republican Garson Heller.
Hartwell said any registered Democrat interested in getting the DTC's recommendation should email a letter of application to him no later than Friday, July 11, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
More information is available by emailing Hartwell at the same address.
