These hearty souls dashed across Compo Beach and into chilly Long Island Sound during Team Mossman's 2009 Polar Plunge. Five years later, the 11th annual plunge is set for New Year's morning as a fundraiser for Save the Children.

The Team Mossman Triathlon Club will again put the Brrrrr! into New Year's Day while raising money for Westport-based Save the Children.

The club's 11th annual Polar Plunge -- a group dip into chilly Long Island Sound -- is planned New Year's morning at Compo Beach. The public is invited to join the fundraiser.

Participants will gather at the beach at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, and the plunge is planned at 10 a.m. Participants need not be athletes, the group said, but thermal wetsuits are not allowed.

Participants may register at the Mossman website -- www.teaammossman.com -- where they can choose among fundraising options, the club said.

Donations also may be made at www.fundraising.active.com, the club said.

Save the Children a global relief agency that provides aid to children in the U.S. and abroad. Team Mossman Triathlon Club said it serves multi-sport athletes of all ages and abilities.
